PARACHINAR: The Political Administration of Kurram Agency gave a week deadline to the illegal Afghan refugees to vacate the area and repatriate to Afghanistan, official sources said on Sunday. They said that the Political Administration had also warned the Afghan refugees residing in the tribal region without any proper documentation of a crackdown after the deadline was lapsed. Sources said that several hundreds of Afghan refugee families had shifted to Kurram Agency during the Afghan-Soviet war. They added that the political administration had also been carrying out a survey in the rural areas of the Kurram Agency in this regard. “After the completion of the survey, the political administration would launch a crackdown against the illegal Afghan citizens residing in the tribal agency,” said an official in the political administration. According to the authorities concerned several hundred refugees’ families have been residing in Kurram Agency. They said that the drive against the Afghan refugees gained momentum in Kurram Agency like other parts of the country after the government announced to send back illegal Afghan refugees to Afghanistan. Several families have already started repatriating to Afghanistan after the government’s announcement, local sources said.
